Bob Follett Retires as Lifesaver Editor

New Editor Named

After serving nearly 18 years as editor of VSHL’s newspaper, The Lifesaver, Robert “Bob” Follett announced in January his decision to step down from the position.

During his tenure, readers have come to rely on The Lifesaver for accurate reports of federal and state legislative developments, educational articles which have been thoroughly researched, and a variety of news of interest to VSHL members and others concerned about right to life issues.

“In addition to his superb writing ability, attention to detail and accuracy, Bob’s greatest strength as editor over the years has been his knowledge of current events on subjects of concern to the pro-life movement. He stays on top of the news and knows how to communicate very effectively to our readers,” according to VSHL president Brenda Fastabend. “Our readers have all been beneficiaries of Bob’s years of dedication to The Lifesaver.”

Mr. Follett has held many other positions in more than thirty years of leadership with Virginia Society for Human Life including district coordinator from Annandale on VSHL’s board of directors and vice-president.

He was elected VSHL president in 1980 for a two year term. He was reelected VSHL secretary in November 2003 for another two year term of office for which he was first elected in December 1995.

Mr. Follett’s successor is Laura Whalen, daughter of long-time VSHL members Daniel and Maureen Whalen. Ms. Whalen, of Leesburg, is a new member of VSHL, though she has been involved in the pro-life movement since a young age. She looks forward to following in Mr.Follett’s footsteps.
