Local VSHL Chapter Participates in 2004 Loudoun County FairBy: Maureen Whalen, VSHL Loudoun Chapter ChairmanThe Loudoun County Chapter of VSHL sponsored an exhibit at the Loudoun County Fair which ran from July 26th to the 31st in the fastest growing county in the nation. Fairgoers endured heat and humidity, and many found refuge in the shade of the pro-life tent! Several visitors commented favorably about our presence at the fair. Many signed the “Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act” petition, and some took pro-life literature. Visitors to our exhibit tried our “Test Your Knowledge” board, and chapter volunteers were heartened that several test-takers scored 100%. All test-takers received a candy Lifesaver for trying. A brief profile of our visitors Little three-year-old Virginia Borda ably and gently dusted our Touch of Life fetal models with baby powder. Young Lydia Wilson and her friend “borrowed’ our Soft Touch babies and scampered off to show their mothers the objects of their fascination. Rising ninth grader Nathan engaged the volunteer for fifteen minutes asking questions and marveling at the fetal models. Making a silent but strong statement, a food concession owner displayed a “Choose Life” balloon next to his cash register. Long hours of being a pro-life presence enduring summer heat and humidity and hauling “stuff” from here to there is immediately worth it with the first “Thank you for being here”! The Loudoun County Chapter acknowledges the terrific, year after year, pro-life presence at the Chesapeake Jubilee in Southeast Virginia and challenges others chapters to be present at community events. It’s a tremendous opportunity to build a pro-life society from the grassroots and to renew each others resolve. *Please note that the words in italics represent materials you can obtain from our state office to make your community fair or fest a success!
