VSHL Members In Key Roles at NRL Convention

The National Right to Life Convention held in Milwaukee June 24 to 26 with the theme "Building a New Millenniumfor Life" drew attendance from across the country, including VSHL leaders. In addition to many NRLC staff members who reside in Virginia and had key convention roles, Geline Williams of Richmond was mistress of ceremonies at the closing banquet. Mrs. Williams is Virginia's representative to NRLC and chairman of its board of directors.

Eileen Roberts of Fredericksburg, founder in 1987 of Mothers Against Minors' Abortions (MAMA), presented a workshop for the Teens for Life convention track. On May 27, Mrs. Roberts appeared before the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution in support of the Child Custody Protection Act. She shared with the teens the testimony she gave the congressional committee regarding the suffering that resulted from her own daughter's secret abortion.

Brenda Fastabend of Lynchburg helped conduct a specially designed tract of convention workshops designed to help right to life chapters. As Virginia's alternate director to NRLC's board of directors, Mrs. Fastabend was invited to help design the track as well as to present and moderate some of the sessions. Organized with her help in 1971, the Lynchburg Chapter of VSHL was the first local chapter of the first state pro-life organization in the United States.

Other VSHL representatives attending the convention were Margaret Disney and Fiona and Nathaniel Givens of Richmond, Kathryn Nowinsky of Newport News, Shirley Cox of Charlottesville, and Susan Draluck of Lynchburg.
