NRL Convention a Great Success

Held in Virginia for the first time in four years, the National Right to Life Convention was praised by attendees from across the nation as a great success. With six general sessions and over 50 workshops spread over three days, pro-lifers had an outstanding opportunity to learn about virtually every possible threat to the sanctity of human life in our society and what we can do about it. Tapes were made of all sessions and can be used by chapters in educating those who were unable to attend in person.

VSHL is grateful to Lt. Gov. John Hager for his gracious welcome of the convention to the Commonwealth after a last minute invitation when Gov. Gilmore had to decline because of the demands of his schedule. We also appreciate the welcoming message from the Most Rev. Paul S. Loverde, Catholic Bishop of Arlingon.

As host, VSHL had many members attending who volunteered to serve as moderators, work in child care, drive shuttles, tape sessions, judge the oratorical contest, man the VSHL booth, and direct and present at the three day tract on chapter formation.

Shirley Cox Injured

Only an injury suffered by long time Charlottesville member Shirley Cox marred the otherwise successful event. Mrs. Cox fell and broke her neck during the first night of the convention. Convention goers lined up to sign huge get well cards made by the convention staff; friends and strangers alike prayed for her swift and smooth recovery.

Mrs. Cox is currently recovering in Charlottesville. Fortunately, there is no paralysis, no brain damage, and no requirement for major surgery.

She was 92 on July 25.
