Tidewater Holds Legislative Review

By William J. Old
2nd District Coordinator

On Monday, March 24, 2003, the VSHL Tidewater Chapter held its first Pro-life Legislative Review at the Virginia Beach Central Library. Louise Hartz, VSHL lobbyist, spoke about her work during the 2003 General Assembly session. State Senator Ken Stolle described the key actions taken to ensure passage of both parental consent and the ban on partial-birth infanticide, in which he played a major role. Delegates John Cosgrove and Bob Tata talked briefly about their activity in the House of Delegates during the session. Local attorney, Sal Iaquinto, spoke on behalf of Delegate Bob McDonnell who had a prior speaking engagement. He recounted Delegate McDonnell’s role in ensuring passage of both the partial-birth infanticide ban and parental consent bills in the House.

The informative event included discussion of other bills of interest to VSHL members, including “Safe Haven” legislation which passed the General Assembly without opposition and a bill authorizing “Choose Life” license plates which was vetoed by Governor Mark Warner.
