Statement from NRLC on RU-486

In response to the third known death associated with RU-486 in the United States and the expansion of the FDA warning on the RU-486 pill, National Right to Life issued the following statement which can be attributed to NRLC Director of Education and Research Randall K. O'Bannon, Ph.D.:

"Sadly, the RU-486 pill has proven to be just as deadly as we predicted, for both mother and child. The FDA's confirmation of this latest death now brings the total of women who are known to have died after having taken RU-486 to three in the U.S. and eight worldwide. In light of mounting evidence of the drug's dangerousness, the FDA had to do something. These added warnings are an important first step, but neither women nor their unborn children will be fully safe until this drug is pulled from the market. "

NRLC is the nation's largest pro-life organization, with 50 state affiliates and approximately 3,000 local affiliates nationwide. NRLC works through legislation and education to protect those threatened by abortion, infanticide, euthanasia, and assisted suicide.

VSHL is the Virginia affiliate of the National Right to Life Committee.
