Seniors Oppose EuthanasiaThe sixth session of the National Silver Haired Congress held in Alexandria, Va. passed a resolution urging “… the U.S. Congress to oppose any legislation supporting euthanasia.” The euthanasia resolution was sponsored by VSHL member Don Wiesnet, Silver Representative of Vienna, who commented, “Seniors agreed with the American Medical Association’s position on euthanasia, which is that the mere knowledge that euthanasia is a legal option is destructive of and detrimental to the doctor-patient relationship.” The NSHC is a nonaffiliated, nonprofit and nonpartisan organization established in 1994 by the U.S. Congress, and patterned after it. It consists of Silver Senators and Silver Representatives who must be at least 60 years of age. The session included delegates from more than 30 states who passed 29 resolutions on key issues important to America’s seniors. Published in VSHL Lifesaver, April 2002 |
