Presidential Election Shaping Up As A Nail Biter

By: Catherine Driscoll, VSHL Political Action Committee Chairman

Remember the sleepless nights and unproductive days Americans spent in November 2000 glued to TV news channels waiting for word that the United States had indeed elected a president? Get ready. In the opinion of National Right to Life Political Action Committee Director Carol Tobias, the battle for the presidency in 2004 is going to be another squeaker.

As most everyone knows by now, pro-life President George W. Bush is being challenged by pro-abortion John Kerry, junior senator from Massachusetts. North Carolina U. S. Senator John Edwards, Kerry’s choice for running mate, is as extreme as Kerry when it comes to abortion. Both Kerry and Edwards voted against a ban on partial birth abortions and many times in support of tax dollars to pay for abortions. Sen. Edwards was absent for the 2003 votes on the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act, but he found time to criticize President Bush for signing it into law. In a press release, Edwards said he was “saddened by the president’s action” which he suggested should offend “every woman in America.”

An unborn child injured or killed in a federal crime committed against his mother is now recognized as a second victim thanks to passage by Congress in February 2004 of the Unborn Victims of Violence Act. Senators Kerry and Edwards were in the minority in voting against “Laci and Conner’s Law.”
