National Right to Life Releases Post-Election Poll: Pro-Life Candidates Have Edge
Results of a Wirthlin Worldwide post-election poll conducted on Tuesday night, November 2, 2004, (n= 1,002, =/- 3.1%) showed that abortion was indeed a major issue for voters in this election. Forty-two percent of respondents said that abortion affected the way that they voted.
Of those who said that abortion affected their vote, the poll found that 56 percent voted for President George W. Bush, while 36 percent voted for Senator John Kerry.
The 42 percent of the electorate who said that abortion affected their vote broke down to 25 percent who voted for pro-life candidates and 13 percent who voted for pro-abortion candidates. This comes out to a 12 percent increment for pro-life candidates.
When asked in another manner, eight percent of the voters said that abortion was the most important issue in deciding who to vote for-six percent voted for George W. Bush while two percent voted for John Kerry. This was a net increment of four percent for President Bush.
"In a close election, this four percent advantage makes the difference between winning and losing," stated Carol Tobias, National Right to Life political director.
National Right to Life PAC is very proud of its record and activities. The Wirthlin poll found that 22 percent of all voters nationwide could recall hearing or seeing advertising, or receiving information, from National Right to Life PAC.
