New Bill in General Assembly

Protects Unborn Babies Who Can Feel Pain from Abortion

Yesterday, on the anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision, the Virginia Society for Human Life announced that the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (HB2321) has been introduced by Del. David A. LaRock (R-33) into this year’s General Assembly.

This important bill will prevent abortions in Virginia after the point in pregnancy when medical science has determined that an unborn child can feel pain. These unborn babies should be protected under the law from the excruciating pain caused by abortion.

Delegate Dave LaRock (R-33) with VSHL Lobbyist Maggie Disney and VSHL volunteer Susan Smith during annual rose delivery on January 22nd.

Pro-life Virginians have done so much to move this Commonwealth to becoming one that respects and saves even the smallest and most vulnerable lives. Recent Virginia statistics indicate that abortion rates are coming down. Many of those numbers reflect the effect of the reasonable and protective laws we have seen passed in the General Assembly.

We continue to face new challenges to ensure that innocent lives are once again protected under the law. Unborn children and their mothers are still threatened by aggressive and dangerous abortion promoters throughout Virginia.

“The passage of the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act will save these precious unborn babies from a horrific death at the hands of abortionists. It is the humane thing to do,” said Olivia Gans Turner.

BUILDING A CULTURE OF LIFE

Dear friends of VSHL,

This past July, nearly 70 young people took a stand for life at Camp Joshua Virginia, VSHL's summer pro-life leadership camp for Virginia teens. Between the nearly 50 high school campers and 20 college-aged and young adult staff, we were surrounded by young people inspired to tear down the walls of the culture of death and build up a culture of life!

You can see some more photos of the youthful enthusiasm on display at camp here.

Campers heard from guests speakers from New York State Right to Life, Live Action, and our own excellent Olivia Gans Turner. Young adult counselors from around the state and the National Right to Life Academy worked with the teens in small groups to brainstorm how to take a stand for life in their ordinary lives. Teens, counselors and the rest of the camp team bonded with a "Save A Life" Talent Show, campfire, and team-building challenges.

We asked the campers to write evaluations about the camp: the most frequently repeated comment for how improve camp was "make it longer!"

Leave 'em wanting more...this is a good problem to have!

We want to be able to make this program grow and expand each year, but to do so, we need your help. Camp costs money, and we try to keep the camp registration fee as low as possible to encourage more teens to attend. Can you pitch in today $100, or $50 or even $25 to help us settle the balance of the cost of this incredibly valuable outreach?  Click here to make your donation today.

Together we will build a pro-life future for Virginia. Thank you for your help!

For Life,

The Camp Joshua VA Team

P.S. If you can donate just $25 today, you will help build a future for Camp Joshua Virginia.

Mark Herring puts abortion agenda over duty to rape victims

The Attorney General of Virginia, Mark Herring, has issued a deeply disturbing decision regarding the responsibility of Virginia abortion facility staff to report incidents of the rape of a minor age girl before performing an abortion on these young victims.

“This alarming decision on the part of the highest law enforcement official of the Commonwealth of Virginia proves without a doubt that elections have serious consequences. Attorney General Herring had a long record in the Virginia Senate of supporting abortion providers over the need to protect women and their unborn children. Now Virginians see that as Attorney General, he will continue to serve the interests of the abortion industry and those who commit acts of violence upon young girls.” said Olivia Gans Turner, VSHL President.

The decision, which was released two days before the last Virginia Board of Health meeting in September, rejects two previous decisions of prior Virginia Attorneys General that recognized the need to protect minors from sexual predators by reporting rape to the authorities.

Abortion promoters, such as Planned Parenthood, have a record of ignoring regulations like these and will continue to do so as long as pro-abortion elected officials continue to turn a blind eye. This is the real war on women!

The upcoming elections provide Virginians with the opportunity to make it clear that we do not appreciate pro-abortion politicians serving as cronies of the abortion industry. “It is vitally important that all Virginians know which candidates are pro-life and vote for them on Nov. 4th!.” Gans Turner added.
