Democrats Nominate Pro-Abortion Ticket with Platform that Excludes 47% of DemocratsThis is a press release from the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), While adopting a platform that continues to call for support of unrestricted abortion for any reason and for tax funding of abortion, the Democratic National Convention culminated with pro-abortion Senator John Kerry accepting the nomination of the Democratic Party. "John Kerry and John Edwards would prevent any effective limitation on abortion, even partial-birth abortion," said Carol Tobias, National Right to Life political director. "They oppose requiring parental notification for abortion and favor taxpayer-funded abortion." On Tuesday, convention delegates adopted a platform that told pro-life Democrats they were not welcome. The platform reads," ...we stand proudly for a woman's right to choose, consistent with Roe v. Wade, and regardless of her ability to pay...We stand firmly against Republican efforts to undermine that right." "In effect, the platform defines pro-life Democrats as Republicans and clearly conveys contempt for their values," stated Tobias. In an April 2004 Zogby poll, a total of 47% of Democrats said they support abortion only to save the life of the mother; only in cases of life, rape and incest; or not at all. "The radical pro-abortion positions of both Kerry and Edwards do not reflect the values of nearly half of their party," Tobias noted. NRLC is the nation's largest pro-life organization, with 50 state affiliates and approximately 3,000 local affiliates nationwide. NRLC works through legislation and education to protect those threatened by abortion, infanticide, euthanasia, and assisted suicide. VSHL is the Virginia affiliate of the National Right to Life Committee. |
